My First Marathon...

EMOTIONAL... first marathon 03 Me, at my first 26.2 finish line… I am absolutely overwhelmed with emotions. I knew I would do the ugly cry, it was inevitable. This was the culmination of many weeks of training. I poured my everything into this race. I wanted to finish bad and what I came out with exceeded my expectations. I'm so thankful for His blessings. I'm so thankful for the support of family and friends throughout my first marathon journey. Today was a good day. I am a marathoner. Running my first marathon made me fall in love with running even more. Yes, I'm in pain and I may not be able to walk down the stairs without wincing, but it's all worth it… And I would definitely run another one in a heart beat. Hands down... When you get married, you give yourself to the person you love and commit to your marriage. When you have a child, you give yourself to your child and commit to your baby. When you run a marathon, you give yourself to you… This is the best gift I can ever give myself because I'm the only one that can make it happen. It's all up to me, and me alone… Through the process, I learned A LOT about myself. FIrst one being, I'm a lot stronger than I think. I can push myself much much more than I think. There's something about setting mini goals throughout the process and being able to meet it, sometimes exceed it, and sometimes even, fail… But it's ok. It was all part of my journey… and learning how to get back up and setting new goals and crushing them makes it all worthwhile. 14 months ago, I started running. If you would have told me that I would run a marathon after 14 months, I would have told you you were crazy… but it was all because of that fateful day when I decided to enter the Chicago Marathon Lottery. I told myself that I'll let fate decide and if they pick my name, that I would run it… Fate spoke loud and clear and here we are now! Running my first marathon has given me the ultimate runner's high, and I want more. I hope this feeling lingers for a long long time :) I'll never forget the feeling of crossing my first 26.2 mile finish line. This photo references all the effort I've put in… A very special thank you to my friend Elaine for my marathon finish line photos. I am forever grateful to you for capturing this very special moment in my life. Thank you for sharing this moment with me with your sincere hug. I really needed it at this moment… Elaine is the official photographer for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. You can follow Elaine here: Website, Facebook,
